History of Glen:

Glen community was developed in the early 1920s. It had experienced various phases of developments from 1930 to 1960. The Glen Neighborhood Association was established in 1960s to solve the problems in the community. It also aimed to promote a great community feeling among the locality people. This association has contributed its efforts to bring several positive changes in the community. Howard Morre and Jackie Miller were the early presidents who gave their effort to develop the community.

The Glen Neighborhood Improvement Association, Inc acquired a tax exempt status in 1993 November. Since then, Glen has continued to flourish. It took lot of efforts to fulfill the requirements of the residents. In the year 2001, April 29 edition, The Baltimore Sun newspaper provided the real estate profile of Glen. This article emphasized the growth of Glen and explained how African-Americans and Jews worked together to keep the community stable. The Glen Neighborhood Improvement Association was then contacted by the Reisterstown Road Plaza representatives to bring Home depot in that community. Glen has lent a great support to Reisterstown road plaza by writing letters of support to city zoning boards.

Meanwhile, the Glen Neighborhood Improvement Association has developed good relationships with community groups like CHAI, the Northwestern Police District, Baltimore City officials, State officials and the presidents of Cheswolde, Cross County and Mount Washington Associations. It worked with these associations to address several issues. It has also built strong relationship with the Northwest Citizen's on patrol. As a result, Bernie Wallace, an African American became the first member of this organization. It worked well with schools and local library in order to accomplish the educational requirements of the residents.

The Urban Chronicle of the Baltimore Sun newspaper featured the Glen neighborhood on May 13, 2004. The stable racial mix prevalent in the Glen community was the main thing featured in the Urban Chronicle. Later, Glen also facilitated to host the opening of International Diversity Celebration Music Festival. This event was taken place in Pimlico Middle School on 12th September, 2004. Many people belonging to varied cultures attended the function and had a good time. The festival attendees were addressed by the Mayor Martin O'Malley. Glen neighborhood sign was granted on August 28, 2005. Senator Lisa Gladden and other important persons helped Glen to accomplish this task.

Glen is an excellent place to live. It offers a healthy and cheerful atmosphere, where all people know each other and help each other. The Glen neighborhood Improvement Association and the residents work together to achieve several tasks and they help to keep the community a peaceful place. Hence, it will continue to be a great place to live.
